Facebook recently added a new feature which comprised of a live feed of pretty much everything your contacts are doing. Sadly it is not possible to remove your own actions from your friends news tickers which is a big privacy issue. Nonetheless, it is possible to hide this from view in Google Chrome, Firefox and now Internet Explorer 9.
Here are the instructions for IE:-
1] Verify you have Internet Explorer 9 by checking Settings > About Internet Explorer. Then close IE9.
If your Internet Explorer has nothing like the above layout then you probably don’t have IE9. I haven’t tested with older versions and these instructions will probably work but if you want to install IE9; Google/Bing “IE9 download” and hit the first result.
2] Install this registry hack in order to allow IE9 to toggle the old menu bar on/off when you press ‘alt’. You just need to download then run it. (Thanks to Brink of sevenforums.com)
3] Install IE7Pro. Despite it’s name it will work well enough with IE9 and there are no new versions or alternatives.
4] Close IE9 if it is open. Re-open it and press the ‘alt’ key. The old menu bar should appear; go to Tools > IE7Pro Preferences.
5] Under Modules, untick everything except ‘Scripts & Plugins’. Under Base Settings, untick everything. Under IE Settings, untick everything. Under Mouse Settings, untick everything. Under URL Alias, delete any entries. Under Search, delete any entries. Under Plugins, make sure ‘Enable plugins’ is ticked. Under User Scripts, make sure ’Enable User Scripts’ is ticked. Under Others, you can change your language and untick the ‘Check for updates’ as it is doubtful there will be any!
6] Click OK, then close IE9 and re-open it.
7] You may have had a toolbar installed with IE7Pro so to disable that click the large ‘X’ button and when prompted only tick ‘Grab and Drag’. BHO and Preferences should be unticked. Click Disable.
8] Navigate to this script on IEScripts.com and on the right-hand side click ‘Install Script’. Click Install in the pop-up window.
9] Close IE9 and re-open it and head to Facebook and test it, you should be greeted by just a big chat pane 8) bye-bye ticker!
